McWane held a one day Silica Workshop in Anniston, Alabama on March 9. Several McWane foundry general managers had expressed an interest in learning about the new OSHA Silica Standard, potential impacts on our metal casting facilities and a better understanding of our strategy and approach for meeting the various requirements of the standard.

It was attended by 50 people including a good cross section of general managers, plant managers, engineering personnel and EHS staff from US and Canadian McWane foundries. In addition to several McWane presenters, we invited the leading AFS expert on the new foundry silica standard, Tom Slavin, to be our primary presenter. The workshop was well received by those who attended and achieved our primary goal of getting everyone on the same page about McWane’s approach and better equipped to develop and implement effective action plans to achieve compliance.
